Brisbane Darkwave Bands Feature on Canberra's 2XXFM

BRISBANE, Australia - September 1, 2003 - Community Radio listeners in Canberra were treated to an impromptu feature of darkwave bands from Brisbane last Thursday during 2XX 98.3FM's (http://www.2xxfm.org.au/) weekday drivetime Sunset Show (4-6PM), hosted by J. Citizen. Guest for the show was John P Shea, label manager at Brisbane independent label, Extrinia.

Tracks from Crude (http://www.crudeaftertaste.vectorstar.net/), The Wretched Villains (http://www.wretchedvillains.com/) and 8mm Torment (metro_independent@yahoo.com) were aired, together with an exclusive Extrinia preview of tracks off the forthcoming debut album from The Jesus Cleaver (http://www.thejesuscleaver.com/).

Shea discussed the collaborative nature of the Brisbane scene and the challenges faced by performing acts as a result of as noise pollution legislation and closure of venues. The Primary Darkwave Musos Group (http://primary.edw.com.au/) was also covered, highlighting its support for the Australian darkwave artist community, as was STATIK, a regular Brisbane club night that has hosted local and interstate artists since late 2001. Also discussed was the fine art of flower abuse following a track from a well known melancholic Manchurian.

2XX stalwart J. Citizen also presents S.I.N.G.E.D. - Synthpop Industrial Noise Gothic Electronic Darkwave on Saturday nights from 7 to 8PM, and has been responsible for several compilations including the well received A.S.I.N.G.E.D. compilation of Australian Synthpop, Industrial, Noise, Gothic, Electronica and Darkwave acts (available from Blatant Propaganda, http://www.blatantpropaganda.com/).

J. Citizen and Jane Citizen perform as industrial electronica outfit ELF (http://www.blatantpropaganda.com/) and are likely to be in Brisbane on Friday the 26th of September, 2003 at "Robotica", held at the Tivoli Theatre (details to be confirmed).

The guest appearance was the first in a series of planned and impromptu promotion for signed Extrinia artists, The Jesus Cleaver, in the lead up to the release of their debut album.
