CONSUME & OBEY: Extrinia Introduces "The Jesus Cleaver"

BRISBANE, Australia - April 12, 2002 - Indie record label, Extrinia, has signed local dark alternative outfit, The Jesus Cleaver, as their first act on the new label. The deal sees the band committed to delivering a debut album with the label, which is expected to be released later this year.

The Jesus Cleaver was formed by singer/songwriter Bishop Price, and features well known Brisbane musician, "[3]", on bass guitar. The band combines vivid and emotive lyrics with a lush, beautifully disturbing atmosphere. Employing electronic and classical elements in their music, The Jesus Cleaver maintain a definitive musical edge with driving percussion and infectious bass lines.

"The Jesus Cleaver are an important first step in building a portfolio of sounds that reflect our high standards for originality", explained Extrinia's Marketing Manager, Lucy Nightingale. "We hope that, through forthcoming releases and live performances, we're able to present fans with new and unique music experiences from artists such as The Jesus Cleaver", she said.

Following "an inspiring response" to the label's commencement of operations, the band was signed as a result of working with musicians' networking groups, regular attendances at live gigs, and discussions with local promoters. "We've received some very encouraging feedback from the media, and had unsigned artists from around Australia and across the world contact us", explained Nightingale.

The Jesus Cleaver are now in the studio, working on original tracks for their debut album. A number of live performances in Australia are also being planned as part of promotion for the album's launch. The band's next live performance is in Brisbane 9:00PM this Thursday night, the 18th of April at STATIK, upstairs at Options Night Club, 18 Little Edward Street, Spring Hill.

To keep fans up to date, the band's website - http://www.thejesuscleaver.com - will provide direct access to the band's work including lyrics, photos and downloadable previews of selected tracks. The site also features a mailing list, chat directory and guest book. Official releases and merchandise will be available for sale exclusively through the site to fans in a range of countries.
